Tiny Cottage ~ Ons Klein Huisie

Please read the full description and look through all the photos before booking.

Ons Klein Huisie is a quiet, rustic cottage in Bereaville, tucked at the foot of the Riviersonderend Mountains and close to Greyton. Originally built in 1856, this small, self-contained cottage sits on the Grace Valley Haven homestead and offers a simple countryside escape with old-world charm, mountain air, and wide valley views.

It is fully furnished, cosy, whimsical, and best suited to guests who enjoy peace, character, and the slower rhythm of rural village life.

The Space

The cottage sleeps up to 3 guests.
There is a main bedroom for 2 guests and a single bed in the loft, suitable for a child aged 10+ or a small adult.

Inside, the cottage has a wood-burning stove, gas stove, air-fryer, and full fridge/freezer, making it a comfortable self-catering stay. Outside, there is a built-in braai and seating area under the grapevine, overlooking the tuinland across the valley.

Just behind the cottage is the outhouse with a flushing toilet.

The Homestead
I live on the same property, just next door, with my dogs, cats, and two wild crows who love to visit. The homestead kitties may also pop in to say hello.
The orchard sits between my home and the cottage, giving guests their own peaceful space while still being part of the wider homestead.

Guest Access

Guests have off-street parking behind locked gates, with a short walk down the path to the cottage.

You will have full access to the cottage and your own private front garden, with a built-in braai, outdoor seating and dining area, and beautiful views across the valley.

You are welcome to pick lemons, granadillas, curry leaves, and bay leaves from the garden.

The Village of Bereaville

Bereaville is a small rural farming village and offers a truly authentic cultural experience. Most of the local community are coloured descendants of the original families who settled here in the 1850s.

This is a real, lived-in village. Free-range children, local horses, and cows are often part of the daily scene. The villagers are friendly, and everyone knows everyone here.

The roads are dirt roads, so there may be a little dust at times, but normal cars can drive them. The cottage is cleaned thoroughly before every guest arrives.

Good to Know

If you are looking for picture-perfect over authentic and real, this may not be the place for you.

Almost every home in Bereaville, including Ons Klein Huisie, has an outhouse with a toilet separate from the main house. The flushing toilet is just behind the cottage.

Bereaville is peaceful most of the time, but village life has its own rhythm. On weekends, neighbours may play music, there may be a birthday celebration at the school hall, and the church bells ring every Sunday morning.

There is excellent WiFi at the cottage, but cellphone reception in the valley is very spotty.

Welcome to the Simple Life

Ons Klein Huisie is for guests who want to slow down, light the fire, braai under the grapevine, listen to village sounds, and enjoy a quiet rustic retreat in the mountains.

You are most welcome to make you booking here online, you do not pay online.

By confirming your booking at Ons Klein Huisie, you agree that you understand and accept the nature of the cottage, the property, and the village setting.

Rural Village Setting

Ons Klein Huisie is in Bereaville, a small rural farming village close to Greyton.

This is not luxury Greyton accommodation. It is a rustic countryside cottage in a real, working rural village with dirt roads, village sounds, animals, dust, and everyday community life.

Normal cars can drive the roads, but they are not tarred. There may be dust, uneven patches, farm animals, local children, horses, cows, dogs, music, church bells, and village activity.

No refunds will be given because the village, roads, cottage style, outhouse toilet, rural setting, or general atmosphere were not what you expected.

We understand that plans can change. Because Ons Klein Huisie is a small, self-catering cottage, cancellations do affect us, especially during weekends, holidays, and peak periods. Full refund Guests may cancel up to 14 days before check-in and receive a full refund. Partial refund Guests who cancel between 7 and 14 days before check-in will receive a 50% refund. No refund Cancellations made less than 7 days before check-in are non-refundable. Date changes Date changes may be considered, depending on availability. Requests must be made at least 7 days before check-in. Early departures or no-shows No refunds will be given for early departures or no-shows. Severe weather or emergencies If severe weather, road closures, or a genuine emergency prevents travel, please contact us as soon as possible. We will do our best to find a fair solution, which may include moving your booking to another available date. Booking confirmation Your booking is confirmed once payment has been received. By confirming your booking, you agree to this cancellation policy.
Please do not bring in firewood from outside the area. This is to prevent the spread of shot-hole borer beetle. Firewood is provided and more can purchased on-site.
