Cape Town & the Cape Peninsula  This is the prime season for the Mother City, boasting hot, dry days with temperatures averaging 22°C to 30°C.

• Key Highlights: Relaxing on the white sands of Camps Bay Beach or Clifton, hiking up Lion’s Head for sunrise, and taking the ferry to Robben Island.
• Note: It is the busiest peak season, so booking attractions in advance is highly recommended.

The Cape Winelands  Located under an hour from Cape Town, this region features gorgeous Cape Dutch architecture and world-class wine estates.

• Key Highlights: February to April marks the vibrant grape harvest season. Enjoy open-air farm picnics at estates like Boschendal or ride the famous open-side Franschhoek Wine Tram. 

The Garden Route  A magnificent 200-kilometre coastal stretch defined by indigenous forests, dramatic cliffs, and pristine lagoons.

• Key Highlights: Visiting the tranquil seaside town of Knysna for a sunset lagoon cruise, exploring Tsitsikamma National Park, and enjoying water sports in the coastal warmth. 

Durban & the KwaZulu-Natal Coast  If you want the warmest ocean waters in the country, the east coast is the place to be.

• Key Highlights: Walking or cycling along the Golden Mile beachfront promenade from uShaka Marine World to the Moses Mabhida Stadium. It is incredibly lively, though visitors should expect high tropical humidity and occasional afternoon summer thundershowers.

The Drakensberg Mountains  Known as the “Dragon Mountains,” this region provides a spectacular, cooler alpine escape from the intense summer heat.

• Key Highlights: The summer rains turn the peaks into a lush, vibrant green blanket fed by rushing rivers and dramatic waterfalls. It is the absolute best time for hiking, mountain biking, and exploring ancient San rock art.

Kruger National Park  Summer is the “Green Season” in the bushveld.

• Key Highlights: While the dense summer vegetation can make game viewing slightly more challenging than in winter, it is a beautifully lush time to visit. The summer rains prompt a surge of newborn animals, which in turn sparks high predator activity. It is also a paradise for birdwatchers. 

West Coast, Cape Agulhas to Langebaan  If you want beach days, but cooler waters in the country, the west coast is the place to be.

• Key Highlights: Walking and cycling is very popular, because it is not the rainy season. Beach fun, boat trips, fishing and so much more is just normal for all. The region is blessed with awesome seafood restaurants.   
•
