Lamberts Bay Information and Accommodation
Lambert’s Bay is well known as a tourist destination on the West Coast of South Africa with attractions such as seabird breeding colonies, and seal colony on Bird Island.
Lamberts Bay’s fishing harbour has a number of factories built along its waterfront, one of the factories even produces raw potato chips.
Did you know that Lambert’s Bay harbour is used by the diamond mining boats as a base? Offshore diamonds are mined by converted trawlers and other small craft which carry large pumps and hundreds of metres of piping. When the ships go to sea, included in the crew are deep sea divers whose job it is to locate diamond bearing gravel on the seabed.
Lamberts Bay consists not only of the harbour area but also has a beautiful coastline where one can swim and tan on the pristine beaches. The town, although it no longer has a crayfish factory, is still an important crayfishing area.
Lamberts Bay is also famous for its open-air restaurants like Muisbosskerm and Bosduifklip and many inhouse restaurants.
Most popular is obviously the Crayfish, Wildflower season and the Famers Market Day on the last Saturday of every month.
Snoek is also available during a snoek run which takes place during the winter months April to July. Lambert’s Bay is also famous for its long stretches of uninterrupted white beaches and abundant marine life which gathers in the cool blue waters. Take a relaxing daybreak and soak up the sun, surf the sparkling waves or enjoy a boat ride over the big blue bay.
