Noetzie Forest Hideaway Accommodation on the Garden Route, near Knysna.
Noetzie Forest Hideaway may be best suited to adventurous, ecologically sensitive travelers who enjoy being off the beaten track & off the grid. Venture into the heart of nature and explore the boundaries of the ocean & parallel views of the pristine river & valleys surrounding this hidden gem on the Garden Route! It’s so private & secluded that you would never guess you are a mere 16min drive from Knysna Town. This unique 2 bedroom family home sleeps 6 depending on configuration of occupants.

The space
We offer a beautiful setting in which you can relax and shake off the city slumber, tucked away in indigenous forest. Drift off to sleep with the sound of the rambling ocean and awaken to early morning bird calls, a mischievous vervet monkey playing on the balcony, and sunlight filtering in through the roof-to-floor French doors and windows that slide open along the entire front of the house on both levels.

The upper level consists of 2 rooms. The master bedroom has a double bed as well as 2 small beds suitable for children. It’s full en-suite boasts a beautiful bath with forest views, with overhead shower and a loo. The adjacent room sleeps 2 on 2 single beds with a small shower and toilet en-suite. There is a day bed in the lounge as a sleeping option as well.

Good quality bedding can be expected, eco-friendly bath and cleaning products are available, and should be used solely, as the septic system cannot tolerate chemicals.

The kitchen is fully equipped for self-catering, minus any high wattage appliances that would deplete the solar. Due to the solar power, it is best to charge laptops and the likes in daylight, and to keep in mind that the power won’t support high wattage appliances like hairdryers or toasters.
The kitchen leads into an open-plan dining area and spacious lounge, both of which open onto the deck overlooking the river and ocean, with a large wooden table and comfortable loungers for sharing mealtimes and good conversations at.

The house is situated in a private Nature Reserve, home to abundant bird and wildlife.
The enchanting 400m forest walk (on a wooden boardwalk) from the car park and the steep stairs leading to this unique home, are well worth it. Please note it is not wheelchair friendly and children will need to be watched, as the steep stairs and balconies on both floors are not child proof.

Water is a scarce resource and should be used consciously and sparingly, as all water from house is rainwater and there is no access for refilling water tanks other than the blessings received from the sky 🙂
Therefore an additional charge of R500 per occupant (over 2 occupants), will apply. Filtered water for consumption is available.

Guest access
Guests have access to the entire house, as well as the private river flowing into the ocean on the secluded Noetzie beach, and the rest of the Nature Reserve.

Canoes are available to take some time out on the water and get your fill of fun in the sun on a 4.5km trail down the river. Children’s life jackets are available.
Grab some beach towels, an umbrella and pack a picnic basket to enjoy a day outdoors.
There’s an array of board games for family or friends to enjoy on a cold night by the fire, volleyball net or cricket set to set up next to the water, creative box for kids to draw or make something with, plenty of good books to read, WiFi and a projector screen, Apple TV with a Netflix account, Youtube and a Bluetooth radio.

Meander around the beautiful beaches and see the famous castles, or take a hike in the indigenous Fynbos. Other outdoor activities include swimming, bird watching (spot the magnificent Knysna Loerie), boating, fishing and more.

What you can expect to find on arrival:
GOOD coffee, tea, sugar, fresh milk and freshly baked bread, rusks, a few pieces of local organic fruit, basic spices, olive oil, a welcome gift and happy vibes 🙂

As the house is situated outside of town, please prepare yourselves before arrivals, with your grocery shopping or feel free to contact your friendly host in order for her to make a reservation at a nearby restaurant on your behalf, or to do some basic shopping in anticipation of your arrival!
